There have never been so many options when choosing how to watch television. Expert advice has never been so critical therefore. Everyone now is looking at how they will watch digital television of course but also on what type of display they will choose to watch it. At Bernard Smith you can choose between Freeview or Sky Digital, you can then choose a display or television with a traditional tube (CRT), a flat panel LCD (liquid crystal display) or a flat panel plasma screen. We have televisions from Panasonic, Sony and Bang & Olufsen.

Many people like the idea of a flat panel but are worried about the cost. Well, prices have never been lower and now represent a price not much greater than that of a large screen CRT television. People have also heard rumours about the lifespan of flat panel displays. Whereas some very early panels may have suffered with age and whilst it is impossible to make generic predictions about electronic products, LCD and plasma panels have now been mass produced for some time and reliability is in our experience at least as good as a conventional TV. Therefore forget a bulky CRT and look at all the advantages of a flat screen. Flat screens come with cabinets, stands or wall mounts so you will find something to suit your room.

In terms of digital television, the south west of England is going to be one of the first regions (with Borders) to have its analogue TV signals switched off in 2008. Therefore anyone looking to buy a TV now must consider an IDTV- this is an Integrated Digital TV, i.e. one with a built in Freeview (digital terrestrial television) tuner. You don't therefore need a set top box to watch Freeview- it's neater- less wires and it's easier- only one remote control!

We have a range of IDTVs from Panasonic and Sony with all screen types and sizes as well as set top boxes to enable you to watch Freeview or Sky Digital on your existing televisions.
